Audrey Niffenegger Read by Maggie Meg Reed and Christopher Burns
Living life as a time traveler—as a time traveler's wife—tests the man, the woman, and the marriage.
When Henry's genetic clock periodically resets itself, he turns up in his past or in his future. A victim of the rare Chrono-Displacement Disorder, Henry wants only to live a normal life. Instead, he must cope with spontaneous, unpredictable leaps into other times and places: "Sometimes it feels as though your attention has wandered for just an instant. Then, with a start, you realize . . . you've mislocated yourself again." His wife, Clare, must cope with his unpredictable and bewildering disappearances.
In her innovative debut novel, Audrey Niffeneger explores the perfect marriage, one that is tested by challenges the couple can neither control nor predict. An imaginative extension of everyday life, the story asks: What if two people who loved each other deeply, married, and faced a life in which one person remained constant while the other slipped fluidly in and out of time? A modern love story with a twist that invites us to linger over questions of how life and love change over time.
PRAISE FOR THE AUDIO EDITION: "Reed and Burns become Clare and Henry in wonderful, realistic and unforgettable ways as the narration alternates between their points of view. Reed is convincing in expressing Clare's frustration with their unusual lifestyle, never knowing when Henry will disappear or reappear. Burns is outstanding in portraying Henry's fear of never knowing where or when he'll turn up. . . . Niffenegger's first novel combines elements of science fiction in a touching love story with well-crafted, amusing and extremely likable characters." —Kliatt
