Terry Gross started out in public radio in 1973, at WBFO in Buffalo. In 1975, she became producer and host of Fresh Air, then a live daily show broadcast locally at WHYY. The show premiered nationally in its current long-hour version in 1987. The 1994 Peobody Award citation praises its "probing questions, revelatory interviews and unusual insights." In 2003, Terry Gross won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award.
